Binge Or Cringe? Succession Review: Nothing Like You’ve Ever Seen!
Over the last few weeks, everyone seems to be talking about HBO’s latest show, Succession. How good can a family feud show be? Let’s find out in our review
A powerhouse of a multi-millionaire, Logan Roy, owns a media conglomerate which is huge in the United States. He is a shrewd businessman with no moral compass and is only inching towards more and more power and money. His pride over having his family-owned business surpasses everything else. He has four children, each more eclectic than the other. Connor, the eldest one, is disinterested in his father’s business. His sons, Kendall and Roman and his daughter, Siobhan, are all eyeing his father’s position as head of the company.
The premise of the show seems like just another family drama, gimmick-y and ordinary. But HBO’s Succession, over the two seasons that are out so far, is unlike any show you have ever seen and could be called one of HBO’s finest ever.
The first thing you will notice when you embark on the Succession journey is the fact that it is immensely watchable. With fiery characters who are each etched with unique personalities and firecracker moments, you will not be able to take your eyes off the screen.
Coming to the Roys, yes, they might be the most messed up and dysfunctional family you have ever seen. Some scenes and moments will actually make you uncomfortable and embarrassed as a viewer. They’re ruthless and there is no length they will not go to, even if it means taking down their own family. The characters are written so effortlessly and vibrantly that even though most of them are quite horrible as people, you will empathize with them. Special shout-out to Siobhan’s husband Tom, and Greg, the awkward nephew.
The treatment of the show is unique as well with a free-flowing camera style which ebbs and flows with the character’s moods. Loosely based on Rupert Murdoch’s life, Succession is a show that could have easily gone the wrong way, but it is a show you will absolutely love. It is intelligent, it is hilarious and it is the sort of show that will have you obsessed.
Watch it, and tell everyone you know to watch it.
Our verdict: Binge-worthy
Succession is now streaming on Hotstar.
